MXA
Development was founded by Andres Ariza, a 16-year Venice,
California resident with a passion for design and development.
Inspired by renowned minimalists Mies Van Der Rohe, Philip Johnson
and Luis Barragan, Ariza found his "inner architect"
after a frustrating housing search for himself and his 4-year-old
son. Wanting a home with high ceilings, polished concrete floors
and an overabundance of light, Ariza decided to start from scratch
and purchased an empty lot in Venice. The home, completed in 2001,
successfully demonstrates his vision of functionality and affordability
without sacrificing design. Since the initial project, MXA has
completed several single-family projects and is currently in development
of two single-family homes and a mixed use project in Mar Vista,
CA. Andres continues to live in Venice with his son Maxwell and
daughter Isabella.

Project Highlight - The Red Barn
The project, completed in 2003, is a unique ECO friendly prefabricated
steel structure in the heart of the art community of Venice, showing
hopeful homeowners that a single family home can be affordable
by foregoing conventional techniques while focusing on design
and innovation. Through clever construction strategies, less expensive
materials and the best of modern design, the project embodies
the original vision: The ultimate stylish single-family home.
The adventurous steel residence addresses the freedoms and constraints
of a residential area, sensitivity to scale and context while
using raw and honest materials appropriate to the character of
the Venice environment. The flexible floor plan has essentially
eliminated the barriers between indoor and outdoor living while
still maintaining affordability. The Red Barn will be featured
in the August 2004 issue of Flaunt Magazine.
